Trails — difficulty grades

Every trail is colour-coded on the official Swiss scale developed by SchweizMobil and the BFU. The grade covers the whole main line, its hardest spots included — only optional lines beside it can be harder. The rating is an estimate and doesn't replace your own judgment on the ground.

  • Very easyWell-built and flat to gently sloping, with no notable obstacles.
  • EasyMinor obstacles like flat roots and stones. Drop-offs are secured.
  • MediumRoots, steps and tight corners — good riding skill required. From here up, expect unsecured drop-offs.
  • DifficultSteep and rock-choked, with steps and crux sections — very high riding skill needed.
  • Very difficultBeyond everything black still covers: extremely steep, rock-choked, with no upper limit.

The three kinds of trail

Each colour comes with a kind. It appears as a line inside the symbol on the sign and tells you what you are in for.

  • SingletrailNarrow path in mixed use — walking, biking, riding. Nothing built. Drop-offs are secured up to “easy”; from “medium” up they are not.
  • Style trailWide, bikes-only, with built features like jumps and berms. Drop-offs secured. On the sign: a horizontal wavy line.
  • Tech trailNarrow, bikes-only, with roots and rock fields. Drop-offs secured. On the sign: a vertical zigzag line.
